Bringing Canada's "Lost" (Bill C-37 Canadian Citizenship) Canadians Together

So my Father called yesterday and is very enthusiastic that he will be a Canadian again. He was born in 1948 in Manitoba to Canadian citizens and moved to the US when he was 5 years old and lost his citizenship. I was born in Washington State in 1976 and am wondering if I am considered a "first generation born outside the country." Seems like I am a Canadian now by looking at the CA immigration website, but there are many things that are a bit confusing. Can someone add any insight?

Thanks for any clarification!

Help??

hhmm I'm still confused as to if I have Canadan citizenship or not.

My father is Canadian. I visited ever summer while growing up. I have a lot of famly in the NB area. My father's been living in the states since before I was born in 1970, but has retained his citizenship in Canada this whole time and resides in the states as a "legal alien" lol. I don't even know if my birth was ever "registered" in Canada. I think not. From what I understand from my mother I had dual citizenship up to age 18? But then read online somewhere that I should have signed a form of some kind before reaching the age of 24, or 28 in order to retain citizenship ?? There's a lot of info online, but I'm still very confused ...
that was the old law that required those born after 1977, in the second generation born abroad, to reconfirm canadian citizenship before their 28th birthday. doesn't apply to you. take the self-test on the CIC website and you'll get your answers there.
Thank you. I did the test and it appears I am a citizen. I'm curious about my daughter, now, who was born in 1996. According to the test I completed for her, I believe I would have to formally apply, as the test could not be certain, due to the fact that I am unsure if I lost my citizenship and regained it just this month, or if I never lost it to begin with. That would make the difference. In any event, thank you for your help! :0)
if you were born outsida canada, and you gave birth to your daughter outside canada, and the father is not canadian, she most likely is not canadian. you can take her to canada with you, however, and sponsor her as a permanent resident.
