Bringing Canada's "Lost" (Bill C-37 Canadian Citizenship) Canadians Together

I am Canadian. My son was born in Canada. My husband was Scottish. We moved to Scotland when my son was 8 months old. He has a Canadian birth certificate, a Canadian mother, was born In Canada. Yet my friend disagrees with me when I say he,s Canadian by birth. Im not talking citizenship, just his nationality. Is he Canadian or not?

He is Canadian

Thank you so much. My friend kept disagreeing with me and saying he took his fathers nationality, I was beginning to think I was wrong when I told her he was a Canadian.

Your son has dual citizenship, Canadian (by birth) and British (by descent).   Your son's children, born anywhere, will also be Canadian citizens.

If he ever has children outside of Britain (e.g. in Canada), however, they would likely not be British citizens, unless their mother was also British (other than by descent).

Never believe what a friend tells you about citizenship!

Or a consulate sometimes .

Sadly true, Stewart!

Thank you all for your input. Its much appreciated. Sandra
